Through the fictionalized lives of two young Saint-Simonians, this television film presents the history of French colonization in Algeria from 1837 to the end of the Second Empire.

At the age of 16, Tristan falls in love with Camille in a sanatorium where they are both nursing their asthma. Camille eventually dies, leaving Tristan alone with their son Alexis. The young father is faced with a great responsibility and decides to take matters into his own hands by working and studying literature to write a novel. He falls in love with Gaëlle, his literature teacher.

A crime was committed by the Trembleur band who specialized in jewelry theft. The Berlin police are on the trail of the mysterious leader. A policeman acts as a member of a rival band. The bandits are trapped in a suburban villa.

More than half a century after independence, the Algerian question remains a taboo subject in France and arouses passions. Whatever the words, whatever the decisions, there will always be a side that feels aggrieved. Why does time fail to cure resentment? From the signing of the Evian agreements in 1962 to the skid of the candidate Macron, who was in February 2017 in opposition to the "Pieds Noirs" community for comparing the colonization of Algeria to a crime against humanity. The story is told through the experiences of exiles, activists, former soldiers and politicians, all involved in the events.

Where does submission to authority end? Where does individual responsibility begin? Each person confronted with violence asks themselves these questions. Through the testimonies of conscripts but also of Algerian activists, a memory of this war is constructed. The atrocities of the Algerian war are known. However, conscripts were pressured not to speak out upon their return. General de Bollardière was punished for opposing torture. Malek, in his forties, single, has just moved to Montmartre and will soon welcome his nephew Ryiad, who has just arrived from Algeria, into his home. Together they discover Barbès, the neighborhood of the Algerian community, very lively, despite the current health crisis. His meetings with local figures will allow Malek to find a part of himself that he had buried, and to reconcile with his origins.

During the Great War, in Austria, an officer was shot on the orders of his superior von Pennwitz. Out of revenge, his widow becomes a spy in the pay of France, preoccupied with removing the person responsible for her husband's death. In charge of a mission to von Pennwitz, she suddenly finds herself face to face with her husband, who is still alive. It was a ruse of war to deceive the enemy. It is only at the armistice that the couple will be able to live in peace.
